Letter from R. Rosenfeld about Moderation (1992)
Dear Norman, I’m at 241 CPW and, for the moment, free. Though I don’t have your article with me, I do have a small notebook in which I had entered a few cryptic notes when I read it shortly after my arrival. I hope that my erratic memory will not fail me as I try to reconstruct my initial reactions. And I write now rather fast than wait till I return home because דבר בעתו מה טוב. I always enjoy reading your literary masterpieces and I enjoyed this one too. The language, the style, and the clarity of thought are most appealing. Also, in re: your plea for moderation in Jewish life (Hungarian standards) and the avoidance of extremism, your “nis-thesis” is an ingenious idea for the golden mean.
