Almighty G‑d: do Thou send Thy blessings upon all those here gathered – them, their families, and all others everywhere associated with us in our sacred work. Give us the inspiration, encouragement, and vision to carry on our mission of rebuilding the Holy Land in the spirit of the Holy Torah. Bless with success, especially, our undertakings on behalf of the Jewish National Fund, whose purpose it is to reclaim the land promised to Abraham as the possession of Israel. For the J.N.F. and its tree-planting program symbolizes the confidence we, Thy children, have in the future of Thy land. Indeed, the tree is the symbol of our people. Our roots lie deep in sacred history: the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of Israel, the prophets and sages and rabbis who discoursed in it and about it. The trunk is our people as constituted at present – strong lines intertwined with weak, hard wood with soft, the enduring with the passing – but they are one, and their roots are holy. The branches of Israel are many. There is the proud branch of Torah, of scholarship and learning. There is the branch of worship – the synagogues where the worship of G‑d is carried on in our great tradition. There is the branch of charity and good deeds – of friendship for the lonely, medicine for the sick, assistance for the needy. And there is the branch of the reclamation of the Holy Land and the upbuilding of Zion and Jerusalem. We who are gathered at this Mizrachi Women J.N.F. luncheon are dedicated to the preservation and growth of that tree – its sacred roots, its vital trunk, and every one of its proud branches and twigs. O Creator of heaven and earth, who creates the fruit of the tree, may the tree of Israel indeed be an etz chayim, a tree of life. May it flourish, grow tall and luxuriant, and bear its precious fruit, speedily in our days, and let us say: Amen.

I am most grateful to all of you for according me the honor and privilege of installing the officers of the newly elected administration of our Naomi chapter of Mizrachi Women. Our women work so hard, and so competently throughout the year and are hardly ever acknowledged and publicly thanked, that I am truly glad that I can, on behalf of all of us, thank them at the very beginning of their terms! So great is our confidence in their talents and dedication that we know beforehand that, with the help of G-d, they will execute their tasks with loyalty and perseverance and all their efforts will prove eminently successful.It is, I believe, most appropriate that we of Naomi chapter are installing our new officers right after Shavuos when we read the Book of Ruth, of which one of the two major heroines Is: NAOMI. It was she who was the guidi and mentor of young Ruth, and she must have been a person of unusual qualities to have a daughter-in-law love her so. Not every mother-in-law receives such devotion... The secret of Naomi is her character, and the secret of her character is in her hame: NAOMI, which means pleasantness or sweetness. This too, in my very sincere opinion, Is the secret of what keeps us together here working fomthe cause of Mlzrachi Women.I must say that I have rarely met a group of sweeter and finer young women than here at Naomi. Dear Yehudah: As you well know, I have rarely intervened in the political matters of the NRP save to offer my assistance to you and Zevulun whenever I was able to. I have every intention of remaining consistent in my policy of non-interference. However, I have received a request from Aaron Cohen to write to you and Zevulun about his efforts to be #3 man in the forthcoming elections. Quite frankly, I know and like his major rival for that post, and consider myself incompetent to decide between them. However, I do wish to state that I have known Aaron for a number of years and have always found him to be a sympathetic and fine person. Unquestionably, it would be important as well to have some non-Ashkenazi representation in the upper echelon of the עיער.
