Letter to "World Over" Editor on Publishing Photos from India and a Poem from a Girl in Poona (1961)

Dear Morris: I have just returned from India as you know and as requested, I kept my open for items that you may be able to use. The object of my visit, as I am sure you understand, was "business" and not pleasure, and my time was, therefore, very much restricted. However, I do expect to have some pictures, taken by myself and some taken by professional photographers, and as soon as these are received I shall let you have those that I think you would find of interest for your publication.Meanwhile, the enclosed poem was written by a young lady, Bebe Daniel from Poona – as exotic a place as you could want. She is very interested in having it published in the United States. Do you think you can use it? Whether you do or not, please let me know, and please return the copy of the poem to me. Letter to Dr. Kaminetsky about Poem by Jewish Girl from Poona, India (1961)

Dear Joe: The enclosed poem is one that was given to me by a young lade whom I met in the fabled city of Poona, She comes from a fine observant Jewish family that has been in India for over 150 years and is originally from Bagdad. I thought you might be able to print it in one of the organs of Torah Umesorah to show how the "spark" is still alive in distant places. I might add that the "Jewish Parent" is received regularly in Poona and the work of Torah Umesorah is known in that community.Whether or not you print it, I would appreciate your returning to me the original manuscript herein enclosed.Sincerely yours,Rabbi Normam Lamm
