My dear Norman: I thought that I would see you at the luncheon after the graduation exercises. That would have afforded me an opportunity to congratulate you once again, but especially to extend congratulations to Mindy. I would like you to know that I took personal pride in your obtaining the Ph.D. Somehow I felt, not alone that one of my boys got it, but that rather one who is as dear to me as a son got it.I know that you will make your mark, not alone in the rabbinate, but in the realm of scholarship as well. Dear Rabbi and Mrs. Lamm, Phyllis and I want to offer our congratulations to you both on the deserved honor of Rabbi Lamm being elected as president of Yeshiva University. We read of this in the Jewish Week this day, and had the added “nachas” to our own fondness and appreciation, of Rabbi Lamm being recognized by Y.U.… as a matter of fact, whenever the successor to Dr. Belkin Z”l came up in discussion our only “selection” was Rabbi Lamm.
