Dear Rabbi Lamm: Many evenings are passed in the vacuum of vapidity, and so when one finds an evening filled with so much human material (which you so aptly presented Monday evening), one can count the evening well spent; no, not well spent, but time enriched in the continued weaving of the mosaic pattern of our peoples. Your talent as a speaker does not need an accolade from us, rarely have we heard a speaker encompass as much as you did in the short time allotted to you, so much information garnered about a legendary fragment of our peoples.This letter is being written because of the impact your revelations had upon us. Your compassion, sensitivity, and insight to the needs of these people will, we are sure, give them hope for their future, in the sea of indifference which until now seemed to engulf them.Miss Mae and I do not know what plans you have to help this group. Letter to Van Kardish Soliciting Donation for Indian Jewry from Fort Tryon Jewish Center (1961)

Dear Mr. Kardish: Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of being introduced by you to an audience at the Ft. Tryon Jewish Center, whom I addressed on the theme of "The Jews of India." As you will recall, following the lecture, without any prompting by me, a number of men and women approached me and asked what they could do, both individually and collectively, for our fellow Jews in India. I mentioned that they might contribute $250.00, which would be enough to support a Hazzan-Teacher for the village of Pen where the poor Bone Israels, many of whm are rice farmers, desperately need a teacher and someone to conduct services for them. Your people accepted with alacrity and premised to undertake this project.I have since notified the people in Pen that they may expect assistance from you. I do hope that you and the good people of Ft. Tryon Jewish Center have not forgotten about this. Letter to Max Stern about His Donation to Indian Jewry (1961)

Dear Mr. Stern: Please allow me to remind you about a number of matters which we discussed and which ought to be taken care of before the vacation period. As President, it is in place for you to contact those who will be asked to volunteer their services for the Auxiliary High Holiday Services. These people include Rabbis Karasick and Silverstein and Messrs. Saretsky and Rosenblum. Among Rabbi Karasick, Mr. Saretsky and Mr. Rosenblum we must find the personnel for all our services. I might suggest that in case we do need someone else, we might ask Mr. Gottesman to conduct the Minhah Service on Yom Kippur. We also must find someone to blow Shofar and road the Torah. I think Mr. Rosenblum would be excellent for the first task and some of the boys trained by Mr. Julius might volunteer for the second. We must have a Gabbai to replace Mr. Lerner, and I think Mr. Jakabovics would prefer to be at the Main Services.Also – a brief reminder of your own contribution of $250,00 for a Hazzan in the village synagogue of Panvel (via The Jewish Center Torah Society), and Mr. Kaufman’s offer to assist the Indian Jews.
