Exchange with Hans Bachrach about the Purpose of the Counterpoint Australia Seminar (1975)
My Dear Rabbi Lamm, Reports from the Counterpoint seminar are tops. The Australian advisors are full of praise for the American team and I'm greatly looking forward to visiting them next Tuesday. As you know, last year's team greatly surpassed our expectations. Again it appears that we are very happy with this year's team. Therefore my questions are rather theoretical, but I would appreciate your opinion on the following. 1. Is the purpose of seminars stimulation only or can we aim to start there the translation of thirst for knowledge to a stage of actively acquiring it? 2. Can we start there commitment to Mizwoth and strengthen such commitment during the nine day period to a stage whey they will continue to be carried out? Enclosed please find a letter received from Rabbi Apple and I'm sorry to hear that the original tape cannot be traced. Hoping you enjoyed your trip to Europe and that you will have a pleasant holiday with Mindy. Our regards to all your fine family.
