For Consideration by Kodimoh Building Committee and Architect (1955)

A building campaign by Kodimoh at the present time must be guided by a clear and deliberate choice between two distinct focal points. One possibility is to prioritize the enlargement of the synagogue building itself, with the primary aim of increasing seating in the main sanctuary for the High Holidays, thereby enabling expanded membership and enhancing the beauty and dignity of the synagogue proper. Alternatively, the campaign might pursue only a partial expansion and beautification of the sanctuary, instead placing major emphasis on developing the Center building, with particular attention to the community’s growing educational needs and the urgent demand for adequate facilities to support a robust youth program. There are certain facts and reminders which should be brought to the attention of the architect in either case, and two different sete of requests for either of the alternatives2, In Either Case:a)Auditorium• It is extremely urgent that we arrange for some increased space and facilities for larger parties and "affairs״• Our present chapel and kitchen facilities are not sufficient for any major affair• The kitchens - including all its parts such as ovens, refrigeration, working space. pantry plane for separate Milchig and utensxls etc. - shnnld he w«^a large enough to handle parties for iron 355-1150 people-. Plans for the kitchen proper should be drawn up after consultation wWT^ome־־nf־־our local caterers. The auditorium itself should be able to seat, comfortably, the number specified. Air-conditioning is a ״must״ for this auditorium Especially since the majority of such affairs take place in the late spring orearly summer months• The anfitorium should be guch that it-can.be. used for the :igh Holidays "overflow1^ service. Therefore it should be provided with some kind of rtage-arrangement so that an Ark can be set up during the Holidays (if the first plan, above, is adopted, the Ark used in the daily chapel will be used; otherwise,a portable one will be se…

Dedication of Campaign Workers: Order for Service (1957)

Charge to the congregation – Rabbi Lamm. Response by president of the congregation (from the Book of Exodus) – Dr. Izenstein. Responsive reading (from the Book of Exodus) – Rabbi and congregation: And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying: "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering; of every man whose heart maketh him willing ye shall take My offering. And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show thee, and the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the furniture thereof, even so shall ye make it." And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they wrought. And they spoke unto Moses saying: "The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the Lord commanded to make." And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying: "Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary." So the people were restrained from bringing, for the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, enough and more than enough. Thus was finished all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did they. And Moses saw all the work, and, behold, they had done it; as the Lord had commanded, even so had they done it. And Moses blessed them.Charge to the Workers----------------- —————--------- Rabbi Lamm5 Response by Chairman of the Drive(from the First Book of Chronicles)---------- Mr. Irving CohenResponsIve Reading(from the First Pook of Chronicles)---------- Rabbi and CongregationWherefore David blesses the Lord before all the Congregation; And David said:Blessed be Thou, 0 Lord, the God of Israel, our father, for ever and ever.Thine, 0 Lord, is the greatness and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty;for all that Is in the heaven and in the earth is Thi…

Sabbath Eve Prayers and Zemiros

A book of prayers and zemiros for congregational use on Friday nights. Congregation Kodimoh, Springfield, Mass. Compiled and prepared by Rabbi Norman Lamm with the assistance of Rev. Herman B. Abramson. Progress Press, Springfield, Mass. Dedicated by Mr. Nathan Genden and his children to the everlasting memory of their beloved wife and mother, Mrs. Anna Genden, 1897 – 1956.1 THE SABBATH PSALM It is good to give thanks unto the Lord, And to sing praises unto Thy name, O Most High; To declare Thy loving-kindness each morning, And Thy faithfulness every night, With an instrument of ten strings, And with the psaltery, With exalted music upon the harp. For Thou, O Lord, hast made me rejoice in Thy work; I will glory in the works of Thy hands. How great are Thy deeds, O Lord! Thy thoughts are very deep. The ignorant man does not know, Neither does a fool understand this— That when the wicked spring up like the grass And when the workers of iniquity flourish, It is only that they may be destroyed forever. But the righteous shall flourish as the palm tree, Growing mighty as a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, They shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; They shall be full of strength and vigor, To praise the Lord for His justice, Our Rock in whom there is no unrighteousness. The Lord reigneth; He is clothed in majesty; The world is set firm that it cannot be moved. Thy throne, O Lord, is established from of old; Thou art from everlasting. The floods lift up, O Lord, The floods lift up their roaring. Above the voices of many waters, Above the breakers of the sea, Supreme art Thou, O Lord! Thy testimonies are very sure; Holiness becometh Thy house, Lord, for evermore.2 L’CHOH DODEE
