Excerpts from Minutes of a Joint Meeting of the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Center (1967)
The Chairman called upon Mr. Samuel Kramer to give a report in the name of Max Stern as President of the Jewish Center. The following is the report: The President reported on his talks with Rabbi Jung to the effect that the Rabbi heartily approves the change in the Rabbinic status of Rabbi Norman Lamm, beginning with this Rosh Hashana, from Associate Rabbi to Rabbi of The Jewish Center, with Rabbi Jung 80 the Senior Rabbi, with the under- standing, of course, that no new significant work or program in The Jewish Center of a religious or educational character be initiated by Rabbi Lamm without prior consultation with and approval by Rabbi Jung, and that Rabbi Jung’s present program of work and talks from the Jewish Center pulpit continue without change.The President further stated that Rabbi Jung had informed him of a very pleasant and constructive meeting he had with Rabbi Lamm in which Rabbi Jung advised Rabbi Lamm of this change and that both look forward to working together in full cooperation under this program.The president further indicated that in view of the foregoing, the Masthead in The Jewish Center Stationery and Bulletin and on the Bulletin Board on the outside of the Building to read:Senior Rabbi - DR. LEO JUNGRabbi - DR. NORMAN LAMMThe Chairman, Mr. Feinberg, in supporting the report indicated that this augurs well for the future of the Jewish Center. Al Baris then moved to accept the report of the President and spread it upon the minutes. This motion was unanimously carried.
