Exchange with Judge Rosenberg about R. Lamm's Appointment to YU Presidency (1976)
Dear Dr. Lamm: My very sincere congratulations to you and to the yeshiva's Board of Trustees for your election to the new post as President of Yeshiva University. I didn't have to read about you in the "New York Times" to know of the very strong possibility of your obtaining this position since I have been following your career. Besides, it has been rumored to me for some time that you would be the likely candidate. As you must know, the late Dr. Samuel Belkin was a good friend of mine. He honored me with an honorary degree from Yeshiva University and at last year's commencement, he further honored me by permitting me to drape Professor Freund of Harvard University. With all this background and that of my own in higher education, I am particularly happy and proud that you will head this great University which has done so much for Orthodox Judaism. I wish you continued success and health and happiness for you and yours in the future. With warm regards. Cordially, Judge Lawrence M. Rosenberg
