Letter from Hans Bachrach to the Berman Family about Their Flight to Australia (1974)
Dear Rabbi and Mrs. Berman, My wife and I feel remiss not having personally replied to the letter which our friend, Dr. Abe Stern, delivered. However, you will have heard that, whilst our first inquiries proved negative, one source was discovered which may yield results. (Rabbi Riesen Sunshine Hotel and some hope.) Of course we are delighted to hear that both of you may be leaving New York after weeks ahead of the group and if you could make it so as to arrive 3–4 weeks earlier than the rest in Australia, I would like to show our gratitude by offering to pay additional fares for you to allow routing via London or Paris and from there either: (a) Tel Aviv/Singapore/Jakarta to Melbourne, or (b) Tel Aviv/Hong Kong/Jakarta to Melbourne, or (c) London/Tokyo/Taiwan/Hong Kong to Melbourne. On such a routing you will be able to make one official stop for a few days, whilst the other stops are technical to make connecting flights and we shall try to see, if possible, that you have 12–24 hours at each place. My wife and I would be delighted to have you stay at our house and we are sure that you will be happy living with us in the centre of Melbourne Jewish activities. Greatly looking forward to meeting you, and enclosing a copy of my letter to Hillel Davis, I remain, Yours sincerely,

Letter to R. Saul Berman about Australia Publicity Material and His Photo with Martin Luther King, Jr. (1974)
Dear Saul: In absolute frustration at trying to contact you, or not being present when you returned my call, I am relying on the U.S. Mails. Mrs. Hans Bachrach pleads with you to submit as much newsworthy publicity about yourself as possible. He heard that you have a photograph of yourself with Dr. Martin Luther King. That is the kind of thing that will go over big in Australia. Please, Saul, do send him a copy of that photograph air mail, Special Delivery.Cordially,RABBI NORMAN LAMM

Letter to R. Saul Berman about Nursing Home Scandal (1975)
Dear Saul: Apparently my trip to Israel, and the accumulated correspondence, plus two unavoidable out-of-town lecture engagements since, have caused a massive mix-up in my correspondence. I just today read the summary of your February 11th meeting, and the invitation to the February 20th meeting. You may rest assured that I would have made every effort to attend had I been aware of the meeting in advance. Meanwhile, please be kind enough to keep me informed. I also wonder whether you received my recent letter, copies of which were mailed to Steve Riskin and Moe Feuerstein, concerning the nursing home scandal. I think it is urgent that we be prepared to move in with it at the appropriate time. In order to do so, without delay, as much advance preparation as possible is important. All best wishes. Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm
