Letter from Dr. Preil about R. Lamm's Appointment to YU Presidency and Holocaust Education (1976)
Dear Norman: I join your host of friends who were thrilled to learn of your election to Jewry’s most prestigious position. Please accept this letter of congratulations from the father of one of your sophomore–junior men students as well as from a Yeshiva educator. Your meeting with our Yeshiva High School Principals’ Council is most reassuring of your continuing interest in Yeshiva education on all levels. Perhaps it will now be easier for us to revive the plan that we endeavored to hatch in your Jewish Center office last year. I read your “Teaching the Holocaust” in Forum last night and found it up to your usual high standard. It seems to me that seventh- and eighth-grade general studies teachers have been quite successful in teaching the Holocaust in several Yeshivot. The involvement and success of general studies teachers raises some really fascinating questions. My wife, Dvorah, joins me in wishing you and Mindy continued success and a שנה טובה. Most sincerely, Dr. Joseph J. Preil JJP/rs A member agency of Federation of Jewish Philanthropies supported by the UJA Federation Campaign
