Letter from Dennis Prager about R. Lamm's Appointment to YU Presidency and Memories of Professional Advice (1976)
Dear Rabbi Lamm: What a joy it was to learn of your appointment as President of Yeshiva University. It is a personal joy for me because of the deep admiration and affection which I have always had for you. Whenever we have conversed I have always felt richer. Your insights, both personal and theological, have always been very meaningful to me. How prophetic of you, for example, to have said to me some two years ago that the position in Jewish life which you felt would be most suitable for me would be at the Brandeis Institute. I think that as one who unfortunately has had ambivalent feelings with regard to the Orthodox community, I should tell you that God has given you a unique opportunity to revalidate traditional Judaism in the eyes of the whole Jewish community. May God grant you long life and good health in pursuing this terribly difficult but incomparably important endeavor. If ever, even in some small way, I can be of help to you, I would consider it an honor. To you and your family I send my love and best wishes for a Shana Tova. Sincerely yours, Dennis Prager Acting Director
