Letter to Stephen Pickering Asking Him to Return a Book about R. Kook (1975)
Dear Mr. Pickering: A year ago you wrote to me asking to borrow a little book that I once wrote, Rav Kook, Man of Faith and Vision – although I did not know you personally, I gladly mailed you my last copy (I thought I had one or two left when I sent it to you, but I do not) with the request that you return it to me after you have finished with it – I wrote to you on December 31st 1974; on February 14th 1975; and on April 28th 1975 – there were, thus, three reminders that you promised to return the book as soon as you read it, and you even told me you would photostat it immediately and send it back to me – I am shocked and outraged that you have not seen fit to respond to any of my previous letters – your original request was couched in a good deal of piety, and I assumed that a man of such Jewishness would not be as callous as you have apparently turned out to be – I would like to have the book back as soon as possible. Sincerely yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm
