Letter from Dr. Mirsky about His Father's Scholarly Works (1968)

Dear Rabbi Lamm: Because of your past friendship with my father, Samuel K. Mirsky זצ"ל and your interest in and support of Sura, I am pleased to send you the enclosed. This re-print is among the last writings which my father completed before his passing, and deals with the topic which you undoubtedly know was very dear to him, and which he developed, his master-work, sheeltot. I trust that you will find this monograph of value, for its contents and also as a memento, and that your interest in my late father's work will continue unabated. I am sure that you will also be interested to know that we are planning to continue the various projects which my father envisioned under Sura and we will keep you informed of progress. With all best wishes, I am,

Letter from Dr. Mirsky about Serving on Jewish Studies Review Committee (1970)

Dear Normie, Now that the Jewish Studies Review Committee has completed its work and the President has accepted and acted upon its recommendations, I would like to formally convey to you what I have previously told you orally. I am grateful to you for having accepted to serve on the committee when I asked you to, and for having contributed so significantly and meaningfully to the successful conclusion of the committee's work. It is not only for the direct benefit which the committee was able to derive from your thinking and participation in its deliberations for which I thank you, but also for the balanced approach and beneficial influence which you were able to exert by virtue of your person and character. This was at least as valuable a contribution as your direct contributions in shaping the proposals of the Committee.I would also like to thank you for the special seminar you conducted for our students. I hope that you will find it possible to plan your program for the coming academic year so that we will have the advantages of your continued appearance at Stern College. With all best wishes for a pleasant summer,Most cordially yours,David MirskyDeanDM\:e

Letter of Recommendation to Dr. Mirsky for Stern College Professorship (1970)

Dear Dave: Thank you for your thank-you notes... A thought: Since Tova Lichtenstein is leaving for Israel, an excellent replacement would be Mrs. Julius (Hannah) Parnes, who, I understand, is available for the coming academic year. I suggest you contact her directly. If for any reason you hesitate and want to probe first, I shall be glad to be of service. Best wishes for a Chag Sameach.Cordially yours,RABBI NORMAN LAMMNL/e
