Letter from Dr. Weiss to Mrs. Meyer about Logistics for Max Stern's Visit to India (1962)
Dear Mrs. Meyers, Having learned that Mr. Ellis Meyer is presently in London, England, I take the liberty of addressing the following request to you: Mr. Max Stern, the distinguished chairman of our Joint Overseas Commission, will be at the Great Eastern, Calcutta on January 15th. He will stay at the Great Eastern Hotel. He would like to utilize his stay in Calcutta to meet with Rev. Silas, the father of Rabbi Silas of London. Could you possibly make available to Mr. Stern the address and phone number, if any, of Rev. Silas? A note addressed to Mr. Stern at the Great Eastern Hotel would be all that is required. If I could impose upon your kindness even further, would there be any possibility of informing Rev. Silas that Mr. Stern would like to meet with him on January 15th? In such case, Rev. Silas could leave a message at the hotel at what time he could see Mr. Stern, and they may agree on a mutually convenient time for a brief meeting.Since the matter concerns the Indian Jewish community, your gracious cooperation will be deeply appreciated.Thanking you in advance, I am, with all good wishes,Sincerely yours,DR.
