Response to Invitation to YU Women's Organization Theater Party (1968)
Dear Friends: I am sorry to have to return your tickets enclosed. While I obviously completely identify with the "cause," I already belong to the Junior League of Y. U., Manhattan Chapter, and I have purchased tickets for our own theater party just a week before yours. Good luck. Sincerely yours, Mindella (Mrs. Norman) Lamm 27 West 86 St. New York, N.Y. 10024

Exchange with Ludwig Jesselson about Invitation to Groundbreaking of SAR Academy (1971)
Dear Rabbi & Mrs, Lamm: November 21 is a day of very special celebration for us and for the Jewish community. I want to invite you to share and grace this occasion. On November 21, 1971 at 10:30 A.M. the ground-breaking for our new S/A/R Academy building will take place at the Toscanini estate, 655 West 254th Street, in the presence of leading notables in communal, public and religious life. Our new building is pioneering - the first Jewish day school with an open plan structure - and an architectural landmark as well. It is another major step, we hope, toward the building of Jewish life in America on the firm foundation of intensive Jewish religious education. I feel that as a friend, a leading figure in American Jewish life and one who treasures Jewish education, your presence would add importance and joy to the occasion. I therefore am happy to extend this invitation to you to join us as our guests at this occasion. I look forward to greeting you personally. Sincerely, Ludwig Jesselson

Letter from Doris Lissauer about R. Lamm's Visit to Melbourne (1973)
Dear Rabbi & Mrs. Lamm, I would not like you to leave Melbourne without telling you what a good experience it has been for us to meet you and listen to your various lectures. We have benefited from them enormously. I am only sorry that due to your short stay & heavy commitment it was not possible to have you as our guest at home. Mrs. Lamm, I would like to mention to you that for the past 5 years I have been responsible for and in charge of pre-weddings for our old collegians at Hd. Scopus College. If in any way I can be of help to you with ideas on the practical side of these I would be more than happy. We raise a large amount of money each year & our old Collegians find it very rewarding to be part of the fundraising activity for a deserving cause.

Letter from Hans Bachrach about Expenditures for Counterpoint Australia (1974)
My dear Rabbi and Mindel, Many thanks for both your card from Israel, personal greetings delivered by Benny, and the long letter from New York. I took your advice and had a conference call with Dr. Stern yesterday, and I accept the fact that you are sending – need some funds in their hands – and I adopted the amounts you had suggested. In fact, I added $250.00 to the leader of the seminar in case he can come two weeks ahead of time for last-minute local colour.Meanwhile, I'm sure that you, Mindel, and Sol Green will be able to fill in Dr. Stern on the local conditions, which show signs of improvement by the arrival of additional *dati* young, enthusiastic teachers at Mt. Scopus. Both Mr. Ranoschy and the President, Phil Symons, seem keen on the idea and have promised all their co-operation. It looks good, and as we are all doing our part, Ap will do his.Mindel will be particularly interested in the three-week cruise which the family and I have taken and which transported us from the world of reality into an unknown realm. World affairs were hardly known and of little consequence to us, and the places we visited were concerned that we saw the best parts of their land and left as much money as possible — but were not involved in those everyday sorrows which we had left behind and to which we only slowly returned.Kashrut worked out satisfactorily, and I'm happy to report that Gini's health improved, and the postponement of our trip to Israel till Pesach may have been a very wise decision.Glad that Sarah could accompany you and share some of your experiences.Looking forward to meeting all your family, I remain,Sincerely yours,H.A. Exchange with Rabbi about Listening to Music During Year of Mourning (1974)
Dear Norman and Mrs. Lamm, Thank you very much for your really prompt reply and thank you for all the interesting information you enclosed. After going over our ways since 1942 or thereabouts, I cannot forget how much you helped me when I was at Allent Extension Hospital in 1966 and now you are as interested in my welfare and condition as some of my relatives. How Freud must gloat over his theories of childhood, companionship, et al!!! At first when I came here, it was difficult to adjust because I was on the floor with the more severe cases (they included [names redacted]) – also a former classmate of mine – until a private room became available on the floor for the healthier patients. Now I am in a private room and take my meals with people to whom I can talk – in fact, one of the tablemates sometimes me and my family from the good old days in Williamsburg. Your letter about occupational therapy, but the mention of Williamsburg leads me to the comparative study of Michtavim and Halachos. I didn’t keep a copy of my first letter, but I suppose I told you how this idea came to me when I attended law school and noted how all the Torts say that certain infractions and abuses of years to develop until now are recognized by the rightful thinking of Jews to develop until now to their rightful fulfillment. Since if you or one lawman can understand the recognition better than anyone who has to help a total disoriented home, but there are all around me the dregs of society and beyond belief. What I did not mention was my suggestion of using my resources for writing Michtavim on such and such. If you are still alive, forgive my insisting, if you would use my suggestion and discuss in the periodical Michtavim. I am in no position to call the periodical, we can talk about it. The basis must be put before those others think the war is still inside. The man you inquired about that happened to the project is in remission. Because I had positive reports from my work on the projec…

Exchange with Hans Bachrach about Counterpoint Australia Publicity and Fee for Yeshiva University (1974)
Dear Rabbi Dr. Lamm and Mindy, Very many thanks for both your letters. We are glad to hear that you are satisfied with the report that you have received and take this opportunity to reciprocate the good wishes for Passover, but I guess we will be in touch with each other beforehand. Enclosed please find a copy of the letter which I wrote today to Abe which will keep you informed how things are going. The savings which will be achieved by my proposal may already go a good way towards the fee for the Y.U. which you had envisaged and I will give this matter further consideration. In your letter you invited me to make comments on the statement which you have prepared and I want you to know that I am delighted with it and have sent a number of copies out already. I feel, however, that it should be in the form of a letter to the Editor of the Australian Jewish News and the Australian Jewish Times, and for that reason I made a few suggestions. You will note that I'm playing a low key on our aims and I only try to stimulate the interest of the participants. Please look at my comments as suggestions only ans/,whatever your final letter to the Editor of both papers will be, we will do our utmost to see that it will be published in full, which I suggest you also suggest in your letter as a postscript.Kind regards,

Exchange with Hans Bachrach about Reflections on Australia Trip (1973)
My Dear Rabbi and Mrs. Lamm, Gini, the children and I hope that you enjoyed the Shabbath in Wellington and the few days at Waitoma and Rotorura, and naturally we are curious to know whether you followed our suggestion of spending the next Shabbath on the West Coast prior to returning to cold New York. When you expressed to me that my expressions of "avante gard" and "follow up" were not very clear in my letter to Mr. Stern, I believe I was able to rectify this as per the enclosed copy and I hope that I did the right thing. I also enclose photo and letter received from "The Y" and Great Synagogue as well as two pages from the Jewish News. Undoubtedly, you will also be interested in an article just published by the Sydney "Sun Herald" even though I believe that the spiegel article dates back quite a considerable time. This morning, walking through the Botanical Gardens, I remembered the quarter-hour which we spent there together and I'm happy to report that the winter/spring blossoms in white, pink and red have now come out in full. You surely would enjoy seeing how quickly nature advances.Yesterday, we greatly enjoyed the Werdiger wedding. The bride and bridegroom, on arrival, did not proceed to the Head Table as usual but the men circled the bridegroom and the girls the bride and dancing started with a gusto. This set the tone for the whole evening and I feel the example of Robin and Debbie will be emulated.I have also written to Mr. Freedman as per the enclosed copy.Hoping you found Haya, Josh, Shalom and Sara in good health on your return, I remain with fondest regards,
