Exchange with Herbert Joshua Requesting R. Lamm's Attendance at OU Midwest Convention (1963)
Dear Chaye: I talked to your dad today on the telephone to explain to him why it is so very important that your father should make a trip to Minneapolis during the Convention of the Midwest Region of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregationsץ It is not so long ago that your father returned from a long trip to Africa and we know that your dad is extremely busy in New York with his own congregation and many other activities. It really is not fair to ask your dad to undertake this strenuous trip to Minneapolis, but we sincerely believe that there is no other man in America who could accomplish what we hope your father may do through his presence here. Actually, Minneapolis is a wonderful city and Minnesota a beautiful state with more than 10,000 lakes. It really would be wonderful if your two brothers and sister, Mom and Dad and you could all come for a vacation up here and my four kids would take you to Itasca Park where the Mississippi River originates.I understand the weather in New York is already very hot. That is a very good time to have Ice Cream Sundaes. Food Producers makes a lot of different Ice Cream Toppings and I am sending you a package containing different kinds like Strawberry, Pineapple, Butterscotch, and Chocolate. Now you can play "Ice Cream Parlor" at home and make up your favorite sundae. With kindest regards.SincerelyHerbert Joshua

Letter from Herbert Joshua to the Lamm Children about Their Father's Ph.D. Ceremony (1966)
Dear Chaye, Dear Joshua, Dear Sara and Dear Shalom: I was really happy to meet you unexpectedly on the campus of the Yeshiva University when your dad was awarded the Doctor’s Hat of Philosophy. I was not aware of it at the time of our meeting, because as a proud father I only noticed my son Michael who graduated from Yeshiva College but will continue his study at the graduate level and hopefully will receive a PHD Degree in years to come. That is enough talk about learning. After all, you have now vacation and I hope you will have a real good time in camp.Maybe your house is closed so I am sending this letter as well as the toppings, Butterscotch, Pineapple and of course Chocolate Fudge and Chocolate Drink Mix (recipe enclosed) and for Sara a box of M & M Candy, to the Jewish Center. With kindest regards to all of you and, of course, to your mom and dad. With love –Yours,Herbert JoshuaHJ/jlEnclosure
