Letter to President Richard Joel Thanking Him for Establishing the "Norman Lamm Prize" (2010)
Dear Richard: What a splendid week this was! And – you are primarily responsible for conceiving of the idea of a “Norman Lamm Prize” and for carrying it out so impressively, expeditiously, and with your characteristic elan. I heard that your presence together with the Chief Rabbi this past Shabbat was extraordinary! The students who were present were far greater in number than was expected, and the give-and-take between the two of you was illuminating and exciting. Yashar Koach! I believe that the entire event of the so-called Norman Lamm Prize was extremely successful, and I thank you for being the source and the inspiration for so much of the affection – deservedly or not – that I felt flowing to me as a result. I hope the Almighty grants you the years, the health, the inspiration, and the ability to do great things for Yeshiva – and with much gratitude to you and to those who labor so selflessly in order to give honor to Yeshiva and its leaders. You are a great colleague and even a greater friend! Have a wonderful Pesach, and make sure that you and Esther get a good rest. Again, my warm gratitude to you! Cordially yours, NORMAN LAMM
