Exchange with David Azrieli about R. Lamm's 25th Anniversary as President (2001)
Dear Norman Although Stephanie and I will not be able to attend the reception to be held March 13th in honor of your 25th year as President of Yeshiva University, we will be there in spirit along with all your many friends, colleagues and family members to celebrate and to offer you homage. By now you know that circumstances beyond our control have kept us from this evening marking this very important milestone in your life and indeed, the life of YU and Jewish Thought and Education. As president of Yeshiva University you have brought a level of excellence and innovation second to none and under your capable and very impressive leadership we can expect many more exciting times to come. You have succeeded in bringing Jewish education to the forefront of academia in America and your devotion to promoting our heritage are richly deserving of all the accolades and the recognition bestowed upon you. We are all so very proud of you. To mark this occasion and as a token of my esteem I am very pleased to present you with the enclosed book "שלחן עורך" which was printed in Amsterdam in the year 1664 and which I was fortunate to purchase at auction at Parke Bernet, N.Y. on March 16, 1977. It has been a prized possession for many years and hopefully, it will become yours. Norman, to you, to your wife, Mindy, and to all your family, we extend our sincerest congratulations on the Silver Anniversary of your presidency at Yeshiva. May you continue in health and wisdom for another 25 years — mazel tov! With best wishes, David J. Azrieli, C.M., C.Q.
