Letter from Rabbanit Henkin about R. Lamm's Honorary Presidency of Nishmat (2003)
Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm Chancellor Yeshiva University 500 West 185th Street New York, NY 10033 USA Dear Rabbi Lamm: I cannot adequately express how honored I feel that you have accepted the position of Honorary President of Nishmat for three years. As you know, Yehuda and I are great admirers of your writing and your wisdom. Your kindness and patience in mentoring and assisting me never cease to amaze me. I am profoundly indebted to you for my own education at Yeshiva University, which was such a formative influence upon all I have undertaken subsequently. That you have, because of your passionate Zionut and your marvelous commitment to open the higher reaches of Torah learning and leadership to women, found time to nurture and encourage my work is a source of greatest inspiration to me. As you must certainly know, there are times when such encouragement is particularly welcome... I thank you with all my heart for all you have done for Nishmat. I pray I live up to your expectations, and I look forward, with your help, to making a permanent home for your values and convictions here in Israel.
