Letter to Jerry Goodman about Advocacy for Dr. Schapira's Emigration from Soviet Russia (1972)
Dear Mr. Goodman: I have been in contact with Rabbi Joseph Schapira from Tel Aviv whose son is a chemist in Belgorod. I have written to authorities both in the Soviet Union and Washington and to the United Nations in an attempt to help him and his family emigrate to Israel. I wrote to Rabbi Klaperman of the New York Conference for Soviet Jewry a number of times, but received no answer. The father pleads with me to plead with you to mention his son’s name as often as possible in the hope that this pressure will help his son. Please be kind enough to acknowledge this letter and let me have copies of any correspondence or new releases so that I can mail it to the father. If you wish, you may write to him directly at: Rabbi Joseph Schapira, Neve Sharet 92/5 in Tel Aviv, Israel.Cordially,Rabbi Norman LammNL:cwEnc'd son's address.
