Letter to Yaakov Feldheim Requesting Permission to Publish French Translation of "A Hedge of Roses" (1999)
Dear Mr. Feldheim: The attached fax copy of a letter I recently received speaks for itself. I think it would be a great mitzvah to grant permission for him to publish A Hedge of Roses in French, especially in light of the fact that there are now some 750,000 to 850,000 Jews in France, the majority of whom are of North African origin, and who still can be influenced to keep the principles of taharat mishpacha even as they acculturate and modernize. This is a community which is highly traditional, but which is gradually coming into the mainstream of French life, and our chances for success in keeping them within the confines of Torah are much better than with the Ashkenazim. Cordially, President Norman Lamm. NL/ht.
