Dear Dr. Lamm – I trust this letter reaches you and your family well. I enjoy reading about Yeshiva’s continuing development in “Alumni News.” I very much enjoyed our recent brief conversation concerning the translation of your book, The Hedge of Roses, into Russian. As I mentioned to you at that time, I appreciate your agreement to give the right of translation to Shuvu Ani. I would appreciate a letter from you confirming your decision. We hope to begin the actual work of translating very soon, but would prefer not to proceed without your official approval in writing, as I am sure you understand. Here in Jerusalem the weather is beautiful, the economics worse are horrendous, and SHUVU ANI is, in face of all sorts of financial cutbacks in government funding, growing quickly in breadth and depth. We have just completed another extended weekend “Advanced” Seminar, which we continue to conduct for “graduates” of our introductory Jewish Heritage Seminars. The Russian new immigrants who participated in this program last weekend enjoyed themselves immensely, while learning worlds about their Jewish roots and deepening their identification with our rich heritage. More and more I see the beauty and vitality of the relationships these Russian seminar participants are forging with our teaching and guidance. The telephone calls come into our Center daily – they seek advice in all areas of their lives to a new society here in Israel, and the Russian staff with whom I work is crucial in the successful absorption of these relatively new Israelis.
