Letter from Dr. Dienstag about Article on the Fifth Amendment and Halacha (1955)
Dear Norman: Zei mir mochel 100,000 mohl for my long silence! I am burdened with work beyond description. I did take off time to read your very interesting essay on the "Fifth Amendment" and it was a relief to me know that the Rabbinate did not ruin you – Halvai Veiter! Please believe me when I tell you that I am profoundly impressed by your good judgement and erudition: Torah V'hochmah bemokom echod. I am glad that "Judaism" has accepted it for publication and I hope you will be able to supply me with a reprint thereof. Of course, it should be sent to another publication. Please insist on obtaining reprints from the Ketuba article; it is important that such material should get wide distribution which is otherwise lost in the periodical "runs". The same goes for the Judaism article. As to the She'lah concerning Birchat Kohanim which I would not want you to offer to Pardes, it is at present difficult for me to advise. I would like to check with some Israeli publications and let you know later about it.Meanwhile, I am closing with the satisfaction that I am to have more and more naches from you.Do let me hear from you.Yours, Jacob I Dienstag

Letter to Dr. Dienstag Requesting Historical Research on Bene Israel (1960)
Dear Jack: As you probably know I intend to leave for India in a few weeks, please God. I wonder if I can count on your assistance in one particular matter. I am interested in learning whatever historical material exists on the Bene Israel community. I know that not much has been written about them, but I would deeply appreciate your supplying me with whatever you can find at your earliest possible convenience. With warmest personal regards,Cordially,Rabbi Norman Lamm

Exchange about Letter from Sigmund Freud on His Limited Jewish Knowledge (1967)
Dear Norman: Dr. Henry D. Reichlin of 333 West End Avenue, New York City, was kind enough to present me with a xerox copy of an autographed letter by Sigmund Freud dated January 27, 1925 in which Freud confesses his limited knowledge of Judaism. Apparently this confession did not prevent him from writing "Moses and Monotheism." Dr. Reichlin has asked me to kindly send you a copy of Freud’s letter. Best wishes and kindest regards.Sincerely,Jacob I. Letter from Dr. Dienstag about "The Case Against Dialogue" (1967)
Dear Norman: During the last few years I have been tormented by this disease of "ecumenicalism." It is not nice to say it, at least not in writing, but I believe Pope John XXIII is more dangerous to us than Pius XII. To some crawling Jewish "leaders" any goy who is not an Eichmann, automatically becomes a saint. You can imagine how embarrassing it was for me to listen to Mowchowitz's Mai-Yofis remarks in tribute to John XXIII when he appeared on television, Sunday, April 11th with Father Flannery whose unfriendly attitude toward Jews was pointed out by Dr. Trude Rosmarin in her review of the latter’s "The Anguish of the Jews."It was therefore very refreshing to reread your brilliant analysis of this "dialogue" obsession. I am grateful to you for unburdening me of a heavy heart. You expressed what I have felt for so long. In fact, I couldn't resist reading aloud some of the striking paragraphs to my secretary. It is pathetic that "in 1967 – Auschwitz – plus 26 –" Jewish scholars and thinkers of your caliber should have to engage at all in a discussion against this ״dialogue" calamity. What will future historians think of this generation? Never was there a time in our history when the most ignorant had the chutzpah to dare to represent the Jewish religion, and in open confrontation with Christian leaders. All this in order to make headlines! In my opinion, this is the most serious problem we are facing. It is interesting that these same Jewish clergymen who have broken down the Mechitzah in the Synagogue venture now to a more ambitious task: the removal of the Mechitzah between the victims of Auschwitz and those most responsible for it. This thing is too important to allow it to rest upon an article by you or Rabbi Soloveitchik. I believe an international Jewish congress should be convened on this matter where our most articulate people could be heard. It should be known to the world that none of these nubile relations establishments reflects in any way our thinking, a…

Exchange with Dr. Dienstag about a Thesis Pre-empted by R. Lamm's Scholarship (1973)
