Letter to R. Waltner about Difficulties of Sending Indian Students to Morocco (1961)
My dear Rabbi Waltner: May I thank you once again for your interest in assisting the Jewish community in India with regard to the training and education of rabbis. Now that I have returned from India only this past week, I find that it would be most impractical to send Indian students to Morocco. First, they are not sufficiently prepared in their Jewish studies. Second, the language requirements in India are so difficult it would be too much to ask of them to learn French as well.Regretfully, therefore, I have not been able to recommend any young men to the Yeshiva Ets Haim. Please accept my thanks once again. With all good wishes,Sincerely yours,Rabbi Norman Lamm
