Exchange with Charles Ulman about Sending Zionist Vaad Hatzalah Parlor Meeting Invitations to Congregation Members (1967)
Dear Mr. Ulman: I met yesterday with Dr. Sam Kahn of Jerusalem and London with regard to the parlor meeting you plan to hold in your home on behalf of the Vaad Hatzalah le'yaldei Ha-olim. I shall be pleased to direct your invitation to about 40 people of my congregation. However, as I mentioned to Dr. Kahn, I would in no way want my people to feel that the invitation is coming through me or my specific request. Furthermore, in keeping with the policy of the congregation, I am most hesitant to release a membership list no matter how worthy the cause. I therefore suggest that you make available to me about 45 form letters and pre-stamped envelopes. My secretary will type in the names in the salutation of the letters and on the envelopes, and mail them from here. Is this arrangement satisfactory to you? Please keep me informed. Meanwhile, please accept my very best wishes for a healthy and happy year of continued achievement on behalf of Torah and Israel. Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm
