Letter to Mrs. Blumberg about the Kashrut of Fish in East Asia (1963)
Dear Mrs. Blumberg: I would very much like to answer your inquiry satisfactorily. However, I am not acquainted with the fish used in Hong Kong and Japan, never having been there. As for India, I was so hesitant in using any of their foods – for hygienic reasons – that I did not make any inquiries about kosher food. Perhaps you may turn to Rabbi Alexander Rosenberg of the U.O.J.C.A. (AL 5-1100) for information. Insofar as India is concerned you might try writing to Mr. Israel Kelman, who heads the Jewish Agency in Bombay and who is an observant Jew and will be most glad to furnish you any information you desire. His address is 137, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bombay 1, P.O. 8.1979 India. Best wishes for a happy Yom Tov and a delightful and rewarding trip. Sincerely, Rabbi Norman Lamm.
