Exchange with R. Tokayer about "A Hedge of Roses" (1966)
Dear Rabbi Lamm: Please permit me to express my appreciation for the fine work, A Hedge of Roses. What impressed me and the people I introduced to your analysis of so delicate a subject was your fresh and meaningful approach to so ancient a subject. It brings to life for the contemporary Jew a performance that for the first time carries with it the true element of the spiritual rather than the rite of the superstitious. It induces the non-observant Jewish couple to wonder and contemplate the very essence of Judaism in its most intimate and basic terms. Once again permit me to add my small y’yasher koach. Sincerely yours, Rabbi Shmuel Tokayer
