Exchange with Isidore Strick about Senator Javits' Speech at Springfield Hebrew Day School Dinner (1963)
Deer Izzy: Just a quick note to let you know that I have not at all forgotten about your request concerning Senator Javits. I have been working at it quite diligently, and may have some results to report to you shortly. I hope they will be positive, although, as you can well understand I cannot promise that. My best wishes to Helen, Joe, the Kurns and all of our friends as well as to you for a "Gemar Tov." Mindy, of course, sends her best. Sincerely yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Letter to Max Kettner about His Contribution to Springfield Hebrew Day School (1963)
Dear Mr. Kettner: After having imposed upon you some weeks ago in the matter of approaching Senator Javits about his appearance at the Springfield Hebrew Day School in Springfield, Mass., I am most pleased to report go you that the mission was successful. The Senator did in fact appear at the Annual Banquet of the school on December 1st, and his address was extremaly well received, He ‘]very thoughtfully encouraged his listeners to make contributions to the school, and added thet he was going to do the same. In fact, several days later a check of $500.00 was received from Senator Javits. I want you to know how grateful I personally am to you for your cooperation and your assistance, and I want to convey to you the very same sentiments on behalf of the leaders of the school in Springfield. I hope you have many many opportuni ties for many years to come to perforn such "mitzvot" on behalf of Torah and Israel. Warmest’ personal regards to Mrs. Kettner. Sincerely, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Exchange with Dr. Coen about Becoming New President of Congregation Kodimoh (1964)
Dear Dr. Coen: I just received the Kodimoh bulletin this morning and read about your election as President of the Synagogue. Although I am quite busy because of my impending trip this weekend to South Africa, I want to rush to express to you my sincerest and most heartfelt congratulations. I have heard a great deal in the past several years of all the work and service you have done for Kodimoh, and I know therefore that this honor is fully deserved. I am confident that, with the help of God, you will help maintain the high standards of Kodimoh and devote all your energies to that end. I need not tell you that Kodimoh has always been my "first love." However modest my contributions to it may have been, I regard as most important of them the idea that Kodimoh can advance socially, quantitatively, and architecturally without in the least bit sacrificing its religious integrity; that it can be a completely Orthodox Synagogue and yet one of the foremost synagogues in the country. I know that there are those who do not see things in that way. I know, however, that in your hands Kodimoh will remain worthy of the hours and prayers of so many people, and true to its own distinctive loyalties to Torah. Accept, therefore, once again my most heartfelt wishes for a highly successful and distinguished tenure. Mrs. Lamm joins me in these wishes and we both ask to be remembered to Mrs. Coen. I hope to return from Africa at the end of the month, please God. Perhaps if you are in New York shortly after that time, you will let me know and I will be delighted to spend some time with you. Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Letter of Gratitude to Strick Family for Sending Box of Citrus Fruits (1967)
Dear Isie and Helen: On behalf of Mindy and the four little Lamms, please accept my thanks for the box of citrus fruits you sent to us. From the way most of the contents has been devoured already; you would imagine that we starve our children. I hope both of you are getting a good rest, enjoying yourselves, and bracing yourselves for a great deal of constructive and creative work in Springfield. If by chance you find yourselves with a lot of free time when you return, please let me know and I shall be glad to oblige you by recommending a number of worthy projects. I have a surplus of them at present.Warmest regards to all our friends,Cordially yours,Rabbi Norman LammRNL/fz

Letter to Isidore Strick about Elie Wiesel Visit and Springfield (1972)
Mr. Isidor L. Strick, 50 Riverview Terrace, Springfield, Md. 01108. Dear Is: I had a heart to heart talk to Mindy about your offer to be your guests for a weekend at Bournemouth. After much serious discussion, we decided that it would not be right to let you pay for our hotel bills. However, the fare for the air trip... Is, don’t give up on Springfield. Your quote from Elie Wiesel as to indifference being the opposite of love is correct and it ought to inspire you to do something instead of just being bitter about those who are ruining things. Incidentally, Wiesel and his wife will be over at my house tonight and I will tell him about his lack of influence in Springfield. My best wishes to Helen, the Kurns and Izensteins and the Kagans and all other friends. Cordially, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Letter to Isidore Strick about R. Lamm's Travels and Hospitalization (1973)
Dear Is: Please forgive me for not answering your letter any sooner. This has been an exceedingly busy winter for me. Amongst other things, I was in Geneva for a while, then in Israel for ten days, then in the hospital for a while (nothing serious), etc. You know already that unfortunately I was unable to see Aaron in Israel, but Mindy and I did speak to him and Gerry. The Glucks visited us last night and they praised you very much. He told us that you have not yet returned from Miami and that is why I am writing to you there. We were told it was quite a cold winter, but I hope the rest of your stay will be pleasant enough.Do give our warm regards to Helen and to Joe, and when you return, if you have a chance, just call to say hello.Cordially,Rabbi Norman LammNL:cw
