Dear Mrs. Ziskind: I spoke with you on Saturday when you catered the Romer Kiddush at The Jewish Center and asked you to call me on Monday to discuss a problem that was important. It is now Wednesday, and I still have not heard from you, and I am therefore taking this opportunity to express my indignation in writing. I was chagrined to learn that on Saturday morning two men, with yarmulkes on their heads, went to a private car parked near the Center and carried what appeared to be boxes of soda into the Synagogue. A number of people noticed this, were terribly upset, and reported the matter to me.Needless to say, this violates every tenet of Sabbath observance and the rules of The Jewish Center. It is something which we cannot and shall not tolerate. Of course, mistakes can occur; but the fact that this occurred, and so blatantly, does not speak well for Esplanade Caterers, and especially that no explanation has been given to us since Saturday.I certainly believe that we deserve an explanation of this breach of our rules, and I would appreciate receiving it in writing.Sincerely,Rabbi Norman LammRNL/fz bc: R. לכבוד איש האשכולות, הרב החכם הסופר והמנהיג הרה"ג ר"נ לאם שליט"א! זה לא מכבר התבשרתי על התמנותו למשרה הרמה של נשיא ישיבה אוניברסיטה. כיון שעדיין עז רישומו של היכרותי הקצרה עם ומשפחתו, מעת שהותו בירושלים לתקופת שבתון לפני כשש שנים, התפעמתי מבשורה משמחת זו והשתוקקתי להביא את איחולי לכבודו. זה איזה זמן אולם רק עתה אינה המקום לידי את כתובתי מידי אחת ממעריצותיו בת קהילתו – נאוה ריפהן שמה, שהיא ידידה טובה שלנו המבקרת עתה אצלנו. אני רוצה, אפוא, לכרוך ברכת מזל טוב על כי נשאו ה' לעמוד בראש מוסד התורה עם צוהר לחכמה החשוב בעולם – עם ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה הבעל"ט.
