Letter from Charles Silver Inviting R. Lamm to YU Hanukkah Dinner in Honor of R. Silverstein (1972)
Dear Dr. Lamm: I am pleased to inform you that three distinguished leaders of the Jewish community – Leon Moed, Rabbi Israel L. Silverstein, and Samuel Singer – will receive the Distinguished Service Citation of Yeshiva University at the annual Hanukkah Dinner on Sunday, December 10th, at the Americana. As Chairman of the dinner, I am privileged to have Major Max L. Shulman serve as Co-Chairman, and we invite you wholeheartedly to join us on the Dinner Committee. The presentation of the Distinguished Service Citation in the traditional spirit of Hanukkah is rendered even more meaningful on this occasion as an honor bestowed in Yeshiva University’s Decade of Dedication, a period especially devoted to the enrichment of its Jewish Studies Programs. In receiving the University’s highest tribute for advancing higher education and for fidelity to the Judaic heritage, the awardees bring honor to the Jewish community. Our Committee is meeting for cocktails and a brief planning session on Thursday, November 9th, 4:30 P.M., at the home of Dr. Samuel Belkin, esteemed President of Yeshiva University, 101 Central Park West. You are cordially invited, and I do look forward to your response on the enclosed card advising that you will be with us. Cordially, Charles H. Silver
