Letter to Dr. Philip Birnbaum about His Doctoral Thesis and Jewish Center Lecture (1963)

Dear Dr. Birnbaum: Many thanks for sending to me a copy of your book, "The Arabic Commentary of Yefet," your doctoral thesis. I hope to read it carefully at the first opportunity. At the same time, permit me to express to you my thanks and those of my entire congregation for your splendid and inspiring talk this past Saturday afternoon, which I am sure encouraged all your listeners to dedicate themselves with renewed interest to both study and teaching of the "Hidden Treasures of Hebrew Literature." I do hope we shall have many opportunities to hear you at The Center in the future.Sincerely,RABBI NORMAN LAMMNL\:ff

Letter to Dr. Philip Birnbaum about R. Lamm's Speech at Meal (1966)

Dear Dr. Birnbaum: Please forgive my answering your Hebrew note in English, but this is being dictated slightly before my leaving for the South. Permit me to express to you my deep thanks for reacting to my Seudah talk with the kind of care for detail and accuracy that is so characteristic of you and your scholarship. Of course, your comments are completely correct in pointing to Rashi as the source of the observation of the author of "Hidushei-Hi-Rim."Warmest regards,Cordially yours,RABBI NORMAN LAMMNL/le

Letter from Dr. Philip Birnbaum about "Religious Implications of Extraterrestrial Life" (1966)

Letter to Dr. Philip Birnbaum about Yom Haatzmaut Prayer Book Translation (1968)

Dear Dr. Birnbaum: I have been trying to arrange for the proper kind of celebration of Israel Independence Day at The Jewish Center. One of our difficulties is that the booklets issued by the Jewish Agency have the Hebrew prayers unpointed and with no English translation. I wonder if we can get together some time at the end of May to discuss the possibility of preparing something attractive which could be printed for use by The Jewish Center, and perhaps thereafter by other congregations. Would you be kind enough to give this some thought? Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm
