Letter to the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture Recommending Doctoral Student's Grant Application (1972)

Gentlemen: I am sending you enclosed the biographical sketch of [redacted] who is anxious to obtain a grant to study for his doctorate in Yale. I shall be writing to the applicant, advising him to file a formal application with the Foundation. I appreciate that the deadline has passed for grants for 1972–1973, but this is a special case in that the applicant is a Yemenite. Considering the paucity of Oriental Jewish scholars in Israel, and the social and political tensions about this question, it may perhaps be wise to waive your formal rules in this case. My Dear Friend: I hope that by now you have completely settled in your new position and that the מכללה has already begun to benefit from your talents and devotion. I have been asked to recommend a young lady as a student for the [redacted]. I know her and her family for many years. [Redacted] of [redacted] is a student at Queens College, and has studied in elementary day school and Yeshiva High School. She is a personable, intelligent young lady with genuine conviction and a love of Torah. I know that her association with the school will prove of enormous benefit to her, and I have every reason to believe that the administration will be satisfied with her as a student. Letter from Michael Tabor about Jewish Education (1973)

Greetings from the heart of the beautiful English (!!) countryside. Sorting things out – tomorrow back to London to make preps for the big day. The challenges + problems here in this unique institution require much determination to solve השקפות התורה, yet no doubt the good Lord of Israel will note entirely neglect those who at least attempt to bring to fruition a genuine דירה בתחתונים!
