Letter from R. Trainin about Fundraising for Hasidic Summer Camp (1967)

Dear Norman: I know how close you are to Jakob Michael. You know that Federation now has two Chassidic camps – Mogen Avraham and Sternberger. We plan to open a third camp this summer next to Mogen Avraham in the Bear Mountain area. We are looking for a sponsor for about $15,000 to $20,000. We would be glad to name the camp in his name. The reason the cost is very modest is that the Bear Mountain area is rented to Federation camps at a very reasonable fee, therefore obviating the need to buy property. Could you arrange for a meeting at which time I could discuss with Mr. Michael to whom, I believe, this should be of great interest. You may know that Mogen Avraham is named for Albert Joffe, who gave us the money to make that camp possible in 1961.Cordially,Isaac N. Trainin, RabbiINT/mr

Letter from Rabbi about Visiting Camp Morasha (1968)

Dear Rabbi Lamm, I want to take this late opportunity of thanking you for your many kindnesses to [redacted] me when we visited with you and Mrs. Lamm late last week. We were most impressed with the camp and the people there and are grateful for our reception at Morasha. The visit gave us a brief respite from the turmoil that is the daily routine and permitted us a chance of becoming ourselves again, if only briefly. Your name came up over lunch with Rabbi Besdin today as we discussed your article on unity. It was this discussion that prodded my conscience, reminding me that I owe you at least a note of thanks, and much more. I hope that it will not be long before we can get together and talk, as I took much away with me from our conversations. Please thank Mrs. Lamm for me for her many kindnesses. She should have received [redacted] not by now but I add to that note. Looking forward to seeing you before long, and thanking you for your kindnesses, I remain Cordially,

Letter to Mobil Oil Corp. about Late Bill Charge and Responding to Correspondence (1968)

Gentlemen: I have before me your note of August 30th demanding the account balance of $18.33, and informing me that a 1.5% charge will be levied if I do not remit. Please be informed that I wrote to you on August 20th in response to your previous notice, and at that time notified you that, as is my practice, I paid the bill immediately, and that the check was written out and sent to you on August 1st. If you wish, I will stop the check and issue another one in its place. But first, please check your records once again and, instead of levying charges, perhaps it might be better to answer correspondence and clear things up in that manner. Sincerely, Rabbi Norman Lamm
