Letter to Moses Feuerstein about Finding Rabbi to Visit India (1963)

Dear Moe: I talked to Dr. Gaon about the trip to India, but he certainly cannot make it before April or May, and even then it is questionable. Subsequently I called Rabbi Charles Weinberg, and he will let me know within a week or so if he can go within five or six weeks. Before that it is impossible for him to leave. Frankly, if Rabbi Jung were in full health and I were not committed to a large number of speaking engagements, I would take the next plane myself and straighten out the situation insofar as it lends itself to correction. Dear Mr. Stern: The enclosed is for your information, This was received together with a letter to Dr. Weiss, who is making a copy and sending it on to you. As you will notice, the situation is extremely delicate and I think we ought to ponder once again how to avoid any deterioration of the situation when the Israeli Rabbis arrive. Letter to Moses Feuerstein about Critical Situation of Indian Jewry (1964)

Dear Moe: The Indian situation is much too extensive to be discussed over long distance telephone. We are now heading to a point where, I fear, we shall have to "fish or cut bait." I would suggest that when you see Dr. Weiss next you receive from him an intensive report, and after that we may have to meet with the Overseas Comission for final decision.
