Dear Mr. and Mrs. Silver: It was a pleasure to hear from the Springfield Hebrew Day School that you have again remembered Mindy and me, at the occasion of our anniversary, by contributing to the Memorial Fund in our honor. It is good to know that our old friends think of us and do so in terms of charity and good works. It was a special pleasure this year, as I received the notice the day after my return from the Union of South Africa. I hope all is well with the two of you, and with Bud and Toba and their families. It is a fine Congregation with a co-operative membership. The black sheep I will let you find out for yourself. The good ones I commend to your attention. You will find them particularly among the younger members, especially those who are active in the Day School. Rabbi Lookstein spoke to me about you in very glowing terms. I am sure you will be able to make Kodimah continue to be a fortress for traditional Judaism in the finest sense of the term. Dear Alex: While I do not know if it is yet official, I do know that it is final, and I therefore hasten to offer you my warmest congratulations and best wishes upon your election as Rabbi of Kodimoh, a synagogue in which I spent five of my happiest years. Kodimoh has many problems, and it will not take you long to acquaint yourself with them. But there are also great opportunities in Kodimoh – enthusiastic youngsters, eager-to-learn young couples, people groping yet willing to follow. The younger people, especially those connected with the Day School, will bring you great satisfaction and happiness. As for the others – I know that you will meet the challenges and give an excellent account of yourself.
