Dear Shuby: I am dictating this letter to my secretary over the phone, long distance. I want to tell you, first, how very much I enjoyed your erudite paper at the Convention. A number of the points you made were highly illuminating. Second, I would like to remind you of my request that you mail to me three of the items which you had recommended and which I could not locate. They are: the two articles in the ״Journal of Religion,״ and the book by Hartshhorne. I would be deeply grateful to you if you would send them on to me c/o Camp Morasha, Lake Como, Pennsylvania. Letter to R. Shure about Lack of Interest in Project Among Congregation (1967)

Dear Rabbi Shure: Thank you very much for your proposal, so carefully prepared and so convincingly written. I used this material in broaching your proposal to a friend of mine who I had hoped would lend his support. Quite unfortunately, and to my great regret, he expressed absolutely no interest in the project. He was the only one in my congregation who I thought might be interested. Apparently I was unsuccessful, and I am terribly sorry, therefore, to have to return the material to you enclosed. Letter to the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture Recommending Doctoral Student's Grant Application (1972)

Gentlemen: I am sending you enclosed the biographical sketch of [redacted] who is anxious to obtain a grant to study for his doctorate in Yale. I shall be writing to the applicant, advising him to file a formal application with the Foundation. I appreciate that the deadline has passed for grants for 1972–1973, but this is a special case in that the applicant is a Yemenite. Considering the paucity of Oriental Jewish scholars in Israel, and the social and political tensions about this question, it may perhaps be wise to waive your formal rules in this case.
