Letter about Introductory Book Recommendations on Judaism (1967)

Dear [redacted]: Charles Bacall had spoken to me about you before and I was therefore pleased to receive your letter. I would recommend two books to you, with the added comment that these are both good introductions, but only introductions. After you have finished them, if you find you are still interested, it would be best to arrange for a personal interview. The two books are: 1. "Judaism" by Isidore Epstein (in paper back only) 2. Letter to R. Joseph Lookstein about His Homiletical Essays (1968)

Dear Rabbi Lookstein: Many, many thanks for sending me your splendid new volume of homiletical essays. Reading through them evoked a good deal of nostalgia from me for the "good old days" when you trained me – a nostalgia mingled with the same admiration which has not diminished, but rather increased through the years. I do hope that "Faith and Destiny of Man" is but the first of a series of similar volumes. Letter to Norman Winkler about Borrowed Copy of "Faith of Judaism" (1969)

Dear Mr. Winkler: This is to inform you that I am desperately in need of my personal copy of Epstein's "Faith of Judaism" which you kidnapped some time ago. I am willing to ransom it for any amount or book you may state. But I must have my own book back, if only for sentimental reasons, actually for more cogent ones.
