Dear Dr. Weiss: I have read through your "South African Travelogue" with great interest. It is a most comprehensive document and, for me personally, full of extremely valuable insights. I only hope I can do as well for the Board of Education as you have done for the Federation of Synagogues. I do hope I will have the opportunity of talking with you at greater length much in advance of my forthcoming trip, please G-d. מכובדי היקר, הרב נ. לם, שליט"א, ברכתי שלאו רב! אני תקוה כי שבת לשלום הביתה ומצאת את לב בריאים ושלמים. הי' זה לי עונג רב להכירך בעת בקורך במחני ואני מקוה כי פגישה ראשונה זו תהוה התחלה לקשר תמידי בינינו – קשר נפשי בודאי כבר יש – ולחליפת מכתבים וכעונות. צדקו חז"ל אשר אמרו כי אין הקב"ה נותן חכמה אלא למי שיש בו חכמה, והכונה של מאמר היא בודאי למי שיש בו הכשרונות והמוח העריא לרכישת קנין החכמה.

Letter of Gratitude to Ernest Horwitz about His Assistance in South Africa (1964)

Dear Mr. Horwitz: Although I have sent you regards through others, I do want to take the time to write to you personally to tell you how very much I appreciated all your advice and assistance during my stay in Johannesburg. I shall value your friendship for a long time to come. Before leaving for New York, Mr. H. Gordon asked me to give regards to Dr. Harry Miller of Mt. Sinai Hospital. You added your regards to his wife, your niece. I am sorry that I have not been able to locate the Millers. Mt. Sinai has no such Doctor on their staff. I should be glad to give them the regards from you and Mr. Gordon, if you could notify me where to reach them. Please give my fondest regards to Mr. Gordon and to all my dear friends of the Board of Jewish Education and the rest of the Jewish community. My best wishes for a Happy and Kosher Passover.
