Letter from R. Avrech about R. Lamm's Appointment to YU Presidency (1976)

Dear Norman: I tried to reach you by phone but was told that you were out for the day. I am now in the middle of my military duty in Ft. Dix. I just returned for a day to clean up some office and personal matters, and must report back as soon as possible. The thrilling information about your election to the Presidency of Y.U. was on my desk. In behalf of myself and all our fellow alumni it is a privilege to extend to you our congratulations and best wishes. May the Almighty bless your tenure of office and all your endeavors with His inspiration and wisdom so that all your sacred endeavors in behalf of our alma mater may be fruitful and successful. Under your very able and inspirational leadership I am certain that we shall go mechayil el chayil. It goes without saying, of course, that the Alumni Office and I are ready at all times to assist you in any way that we possibly can. Once again, heartiest congratulations and mazel tov. Letter to Friends of Nishmat with Words of Tribute to Rabbanit Henkin and Nishmat (2002)

Dear Friends: It is a distinct pleasure and honor to add my words of tribute and approbation to all who have gathered to acknowledge in gratitude the achievements of Rabbanit Chana Henkin. Over the past decade, Rabbanit Henkin has been a trailblazer in providing women with an unparalleled opportunity for spiritual and intellectual growth through Nishmat. Whenever I meet your outstanding students and graduates, I am deeply impressed by their seriousness of purpose, intellectual excellence, and deep religious conviction. All of these qualities can be attributed to Rabbanit Henkin, their dynamic role model. One of the most prominent and promising things Nishmat has done is raising up a new generation of female religious guides and leaders, Yoatzot Halakhah, who field questions from women about intimate personal and family matters, all within the bounds of Jewish law.
