Letter from David Rockefeller Inviting Rabbi Lamm to a Discussion on Economic Issues (1969)

Dear Rabbi Lamm: Critical periods of social change like the present one inevitably raise many complex economic questions. Must poverty coexist with affluence? Should we have a uniform national welfare program? Are individuals, companies and governmental units going too heavily into debt? Must we face higher unemployment in order to counter inflation? In the hope of contributing toward a greater practical understanding of these and other issues, The Chase Manhattan Bank is holding a pilot conference here at the Head Office on Wednesday, March 26th. I am pleased to invite you to join with a small group of other clergymen of the major faiths and some of my associates as we examine the more perplexing of these economic problems. We shall begin at 9:30 a.m., continue through luncheon, and adjourn by 4:30 p.m. I think you will find the presentation both stimulating and helpful in your own work, and I certainly hope you can be with us.
