Dear Rabbi Lamm, I am writing to enquire whether you, together with your wife, would consider travelling to London to be the guests of honour at a dinner we are holding at the King David Suite, Marble Arch, W.1., on Wednesday evening, April 1st next. The occasion is to mark the opening of the completed new school buildings which will replace the obsolete premises the school has been occupying for the past twenty-five years. The school was founded by Rabbi Dr. E. Munk, and others, and is now looked upon as one of the leading Jewish primary schools in the United Kingdom, with 300 pupils between the ages of 5 and 11, and an associated kindergarten in other premises with some 70 children. This particular celebration is not only that the new school buildings have been constructed complete with a swimming pool, but that as a result of this the school will become State Aided, and the parents will no longer have to continue to bear the burden of the ever-increasing school fees. At the same time the Education Authority leave us with complete freedom in regard to the Jewish studies. Enclosed herewith is a souvenir brochure of the dinner that was held on June 25th last, to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone, and at which Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovits was the guest of honour, and which gives some indication of the work that is being done. At the end of this dinner we would be appealing for funds to help to clear the loans we have had to raise to get the buildings erected, and it is felt that in addition to you and your wife gracing the dinner with your distinguished presence, we will also have the opportunity of listening to one of your erudite and inspiring addresses, and the guests would be very greatly stimulated and encouraged. Letter to R. Schonfeld about Rabbinic Alumni Dinner in His Honor (1967)

Dear Fabian: I just received word of the forthcoming honor which will be tendered to you by the Rabbinic Alumni on April 2nd and 3rd. Because the letter is unclear as to exactly when the dinner in your honor will be held, I find myself in a bit of a quandary. I had long ago accepted a lecture engagement for Sunday night, April 2nd in Flushing. Letter to R. Jakobovits about Hosting Him for Joshua Lamm's Bar Mitzvah (1969)

Dear Immanuel: I have just spoken with my sister-in-law, Judith, who conveyed to me warm regards from you and Amelie – for which I thank you very much. You mentioned that you may be free for Saturday, November 29th, and I am delighted, especially after the tussle over who should extend the invitation to Bernstein and the Union people in Chicago, who had insisted that they wanted you for Shabbat. I have just tried calling Saul Bernstein, but he is out of town. At any rate, I am very pleased to learn that you will now be able to be with us for the entire weekend.I shall try to make immediate arrangements — please let me know at once if you want it only for Friday night and Saturday, or for Saturday night as well and, possibly, for Sunday night too.A slight problem may be presented for Friday night dinner. We plan to have ours on the tenth floor of The Center, and while I was aware that you use the special elevator you designed for the Synagogue, I do not recall if you avail yourself of elevator arrangements at the Cameron on a floor of Rabbi Soloveitchik’s heter in The Center.The program for that Saturday calls for me to speak and address my son. If it is no imposition on you, it will be my pleasure to invite you to give a drasha about half an hour before Minchah, and possibly to speak at the Shabbat ante. If this can be confirmed in advance, I would like to include it in the Bulletin and make sure of a maximum attendance for about 70.While I was in Nairobi, Kenya, about two years ago, an of course, be kept confidential, Judith gave me information about the Far reception that you and Amelie might want when you are here. I look forward to reciprocating in kind. Would you be able to give me any information about the London person who has served for about two years?
