Letter to Dr. Weiss about Yom Tov Sheni Shel Galuyot Article (1969)

Dear Dr. Weiss: About three or four years ago I talked to you about an article I have been planning on Yom Tov Sheni Shel Galuyot, and I showed you the draft. I very much appreciated your comments, and subsequently submitted it to the Jewish Heritage where it was printed in somewhat truncated form. Because of the recent Conservative vote, which makes the subject relevant once again, I have expanded on the published article, and, upon the request of Rabbi Zevulun Charlop, am submitting it for publication in Chavrusa. Rabbi Charlop is looking into the possibility of having it printed so that it can be reprinted in large numbers. If this can be arranged, do you think the Union would be interested in distributing it? If so, it would be good to know in advance how many offprints you would want. Please do not feel that I am soliciting circulation. That is about the last thing that I have in mind. I do feel, however, that if it is of value, it ought to go beyond the rather limited audience of the Rabbinic Alumni of Yeshiva. Cordially yours, Rabbi Norman Lamm

Follow-up letter to Bernard Marks about Kitzur Shulchan Aruch Translation Project (1974)

Dear Mr. Marks: Dr. Neuschloss has finally mailed to me his sample copy of the translation, and partial updating, using that portion of the קיצור שלחן ערוך which deals with candle lighting on Friday night. Frankly, I am so overwhelmed in this season that I have not yet had the time to look at it. However, it is perhaps best that way – so that you may see for yourself, without my editing, what he has accomplished, comparing it (if you wish) with Golden.Please do be kind enough to let me have back this original as soon as possible, because I will want to review it immediately after the Shavuot holiday.
