My Dear Colleague: I would appreciate it greatly if you would be able to comply with my request in the following areas. A. Please send the first four copies of your synagogue bulletin from Sept. 1963. B. I would appreciate it greatly if you could send me any outline material on your supper lectures which you have held from Sept. 1963. I have written to your brother, Rabbi Maurice Lamm, for copies of his monthly synagogue bulletin from September 1963 on, and I have written to the Fifth Ave. Synagogue and to Congregation Kehillath Jeshurun, 125 E. 85th St., New York City, NY 524-0800. I would like to get from these synagogues a total of three issues each since they all had a bulletin. I therefore would appreciate it greatly if you could send me your issues. This is being done at random on each of these synagogue’s mailing lists and if at all possible, to obtain three issues from their synagogue bulletin from September 1963 until the present issue. I am enclosing a copy of my sermon entitled “Rabbi Stay Alive” and I would like to have your comments on it. Trusting that you will make every effort to comply with the three requests that I have listed in this letter as they are very important to me. Dear Mr. Kennedy: A great many words have been written and said about President John F. Kennedy during these past months, still I am enclosing for your perusal a copy of the sermon that was preached by Rabbi Norman Lamm on November 23, 1963, the subject of which is entitled “The Sun Has Set,” a tribute to President John F. Kennedy. It is a most beautiful and sincere tribute. May I suggest for your consideration that it be placed in the archives of the John F. Kennedy Memorial that is being planned. Exchange with Senator Javits about R. Lamm's Sermon on President Kennedy's Assassination (1963)

Dear Senator Javits: On November 23, 1963, Rabbi Norman Lamm preached a sermon to the congregation of The Jewish Center, 131 West 86th Street, New York City, entitled “The Sun Has Set” – a tribute to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The entire congregation was so greatly moved by the tribute that it requested copies of the sermon. Hence, I am enclosing this grateful homage in words to you for your perusal and if I may suggest, it is worthy of inclusion in the Congressional Record as a statement from the Jewish Community on our terrible loss.
