Exchange with Chief Rabbi Casper about Candidate Search for Oxford Synagogue Pulpit Opening (1964)

My dear Rabbi Lamm, I hope this finds you and your family in good health, and I take this opportunity once more to send you the best wishes of my wife and myself. I understand from Mr. Barnett (who, apart from his connection with the Education Board, is also a member of our Oxford Synagogue) that he has had some correspondence with you in which you suggested that you might be able to recommend a suitable Rabbi for Oxford. You have seen the Synagogue and I am sure you have a good idea of the sort of Rabbi that we need for this important post. As you know, we are now actively engaged in seeking the right man, because Dr. Abt is due to retire towards the end of this year. Mr. Barnett tells me that you did have somebody in mind, and I should be grateful if you would let me know who it is, so that I can follow up the matter with him. Clearly the appointment is one which concerns me very directly and my approval will be necessary. For my own part, I am anxious to get as good a man as we possibly can in order to strengthen our forces over here. Please do let me know if you can make any proposals in this regard. Exchange with R. Lapin about Invitation to Speak at Synagogue and Organizing Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists in South Africa (1963)

Dear Rabbi Lamm, Dr. Azriel Rosenfeld has probably told you that he has written to me and mentioned your name with regard to the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists. Needless to say, you are very well-known to me through your writings and the Rabbinical work you have done, and your many achievements. The real purpose of this letter is to tell you how very pleased my wife and I are about your impending visit. I have already spoken to the South African Jewish Board of Education asking them to make arrangements for you to preach at my Synagogue and to spend Friday night and Shabbat with us in our home. It will be a very great honour and privilege for us to have you, and I have a very satisfying suspicion that you will enjoy preaching in my Synagogue. The attendance is an excellent one, and those who come to Synagogue are of a high intellectual standard. I would also like to make arrangements for certain of our members to meet you. I hope that providing the South African Jewish Board of Education is agreeable to this arrangement that it also meets with your approval. In the meantime, if there is anything at all that I can do for you here please do not fail to ask me. I shall be only too happy to be of some assistance to so distinguished a guest. Exchange with R. Witty about Search for Executive Director for Maimonides College (1963)

Dear Rabbi Lamm: I am writing to you at the suggestion of Mr. Victor Geller, of the Community Service Division at Yeshiva. Mr. Geller informed me at our recent Rabbinic Alumni Convention that you are planning to leave soon for South Africa, and it is in this connection that I am now writing to you. The Canadian Jewish Congress, Western Division, is in desperate search for an educational director. While they have one or two prospective candidates, the committee is not satisfied that it can make a proper choice from the men who are available to them. They have asked me to take a hand in seeking out prospects for them. In addition to other educational placement agencies, they asked me to turn to our Yeshiva placement service. Mr. Geller felt that the information about this job should be sent on to you, with the understanding that you may be able to apprise some able people on your trip of this opening. They, if interested, could then contact the local Congress office or me. Enclosed you will find a copy of a letter sent to me by the Executive Director of Congress, containing a job analysis which might be of interest to you, and to any individuals who might express an interest in this post. Your kind attention and cooperation will be deeply appreciated. I would be thankful for an indication of any prospective candidates, in a letter, upon your return.
