Exchange with R. Donin about Publishing Piyyutim Pamphlet (1964)

Dear Norm, several years ago, you wrote to me regarding the availability of "Spring Piyutim." I could not use your publication as it did not have the Shachris Yotzros for the Arba Parshiyot. I am interested now in putting together a "piyutim" pamphlet just for our own congregation, to include the Shachris Yotzros as well as additional page instructions that will correspond to the Nusach Sfard siddur which we are now using. Since your booklet was copyrighted, may we have the permission of your congregation to use your English translation. We intend to gratefully acknowledge credit to The Jewish Center and its Rabbis on the preface page. Please advise at your earliest opportunity. I would also appreciate receiving two (2) copies of your Piyutim booklet, for which you may bill me. With many thanks for your cooperation, I remain sincerely yours, Rabbi Hayim Donin

Exchange with R. Elkanah Schwartz about Reconvening "Chavrusa" (1967)

Dear Rav Lamm: I hope this note finds you and yours in the best of health. You might recall the wonderful moments of “Chavrusas” of a few years ago. One of the moving spirits was Rabbi Jacobovits. I wish to recommend a reconvening of the group, but not for just another Tzaychem L’Shalom. During his tenure on these shores, Rabbi Jacobovits undoubtedly drew some impressions which he would be interested in sharing with a few yichedey segulah, outside the rigidity of the established organizations. (I base this remark not on knowledge but on assumption.) Should you and he be interested, I would be happy to forward the “Chavrusas” list. I leave this matter to your respected judgement. לקראת השנה החדשה הנני בא לברך את כבוד ידידי ואת אשתו ובני ביתו ואנשי קהילתו יחיו – שתזכו כולכם ונזכה כולנו לכתיבה וחתימה טובה בספר החיים והשלום. שתהא השנה הבאה שנת גאולה שלמה. אכיר לו תודה עמוקה אם יזכירני למוכ״ר אצל הגבאים יחיו שיכבדו אותי, כלום עם עבודת הקודש שלי לכבוד ראש השנה, וזכות המצוה תעמוד להם בזה ובבא. דומני שכבודו מעריך די הצורך עבודת הקודש שלי והנחיצות בזמננו לעבודה מסוג זה לסוכת הרכים המשתוקקים כבר בכליון עיניים לחלק בסל הסידור. והנני מסיים בברכה כפולה לכבוד החגים הבאים לקראתנו – שנזכה לחוג אותם מתוך שמחה של מצוה, הרחבת הדעת ושלוות הנפש.
