Dear Rabbi Lamm: Please accept my words of congratulations on your accession to the Presidency of Yeshiva University. Although I have never had the honor of meeting you, mutual acquaintances, such as Mr. Joseph Schiff of the West Side Jewish Community Council, have frequently spoken to me of the splendid leadership you have provided to our Jewish Community of the West Side. As you can see from my letterhead, I am a candidate for public office. It seems to me that the legitimate public policy concerns which we share as Jews should be given consistent expression in the halls of the State legislature. I would consider it a privilege if you could find the time to meet with me, either alone or in the presence of some of your colleagues, to discuss matters of mutual priority, and, in the event you find me properly receptive, to see if you might not wish to provide some measure of assistance to me in the present campaign. Congratulations on your election to the presidency of the greetest Torah institution in Diaspora, the Yeshiva University. I pray for you success in leading this great center of Halacha, Judaism, and science to become the spiritual source of Jewish life to tens of thousands of our young people whose life will be devoted to Torah concepts, thus assuring survival of future generation. I particularly would ask you to institute a policy that every student must spend one year in Israel in order to absorb the atmosphere of our holy land before their graduation.
