Exchange with R. Weinberger about Invitation to Serve as Judge for Rabbinical Alliance of America Literary Award (1967)

Dear Rabbi Lamm: As the newly elected president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, I am happy to announce that we are inaugurating a literary award that will go to the author of a book, article, or essay that has contributed the most towards the advancement of Orthodox Judaism within the Jewish calendar year. We extend this most cordial invitation to you to serve on the panel of judges who will determine the winner of the prize, which will be in the modest sum of $250.00. While the prize itself may be small, we feel that its presentation at an appropriate public occasion will provide sufficient status to serve as an impetus to encourage our colleagues to devote their talents to the service of the Orthodox community. We expect to announce to the press this new award at the end of November and we would appreciate your early response so that we can make known the list of judges at that time. Exchange with A. Lawson about Invitation to be Guest of Honor at Menorah Primary School Dinner (1969)

Dear Rabbi Lamm, I am writing to enquire whether you, together with your wife, would consider travelling to London to be the guests of honour at a dinner we are holding at the King David Suite, Marble Arch, W.1., on Wednesday evening, April 1st next. The occasion is to mark the opening of the completed new school buildings which will replace the obsolete premises the school has been occupying for the past twenty-five years. The school was founded by Rabbi Dr. E. Munk, and others, and is now looked upon as one of the leading Jewish primary schools in the United Kingdom, with 300 pupils between the ages of 5 and 11, and an associated kindergarten in other premises with some 70 children. This particular celebration is not only that the new school buildings have been constructed complete with a swimming pool, but that as a result of this the school will become State Aided, and the parents will no longer have to continue to bear the burden of the ever-increasing school fees. At the same time the Education Authority leave us with complete freedom in regard to the Jewish studies. Enclosed herewith is a souvenir brochure of the dinner that was held on June 25th last, to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone, and at which Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovits was the guest of honour, and which gives some indication of the work that is being done. At the end of this dinner we would be appealing for funds to help to clear the loans we have had to raise to get the buildings erected, and it is felt that in addition to you and your wife gracing the dinner with your distinguished presence, we will also have the opportunity of listening to one of your erudite and inspiring addresses, and the guests would be very greatly stimulated and encouraged.
