I am asking Walter Wurzburger to act as a שליח מצוה and take this letter + enclosure to New York. At home I has heard rumours that דיברו בך נכבדות in corr. with the Bar-Ilan University and I fervently hoped that things would work out & that you'd come. I was very disappointed when I learned that there was little likelihood of your immediate coming to Bar-Ilan. You know that I am not orthodox (& in many areas – including the public, social & political re – even military unorthodox) but I wish you and the like of you were in Israel. ר. נ., קבלתי מכתבך מיום י' סיון תשל״ג. אני מודה לך על המלים החמות. נהנתי מכל פגישה אתך ואתה יודע כמה רציתי שתקבל על עצמך את האחריות למפעל הגדול של בר-אילן, זהו מוסד חשוב בעל תפקידים גדולים ואני מקוה שמצפה לו עתיד גדול. בבר-אילן מעוצבת במדה מרובה דמותה של המנהיגות הדתית העתידה בישראל. חבל שהתכנית לא יצאה לפועל. אני עדיין מצטער על שלא החלטת להכנס לעול למרות כל המכשולים. אני מכבד אח החלטתך ואני בטוח שהיחסים בינינו, האישיים והעניניים ישארו ידידותיים ואני מקווה שתמשיך גם בידידותך ובעזרתך לבר-אילן.האחריות לבעיות התמורות של העם היהודי ובמיוחד של היהדות הדתית, מקרבת וצריכה לקרב כל אותם יהודים המפוזרים בעולם והכואבים את כאב עמם ותורתם.בברכה,ז. ורהפטיג
