Dear Asher: Like everyone else, I was shocked by the terrible news of the destruction of the West Side Institutional Synagogue by fire on Friday night. Words, of course, are far too feeble to express my feelings of sadness at this terrible occasion. If there is anything that I can do for you personally or professionally in order to ameliorate your difficult tasks in this trying hour, please feel free to call upon me for whatever you wish. Letter to Samuel Rudin about the New Superintendent (1965)

Dear Mr. Rudin: I am writing this letter on behalf of Mrs. Lamm and myself, to tell you how very pleased we are with the services of our new superintendent, Mr. Alfred Sanches. We have found him to be at all times courteous, cooperative, and helpful. We are especially impressed by his attitude towards the Jewish tenants in the building. For the first time since we moved into 27 West 86th Street, a superintendent has decided to devote one corner of the lobby to Hanukkah "Menorah" and decorations, in addition to the usual Christmas paraphernalia in the building. Neither I nor anyone else requested this of Mr. Sanches. The fact that he did so voluntarily, together with his brother, Bobby (whom we find to be a perfectly delightful and friendly person), certainly speaks well of him.A landlord so often receives complaints, we thought you might like to receive this letter of commendation and appreciation.Warmest personal regards,Sincerely yours,RABBI NORMAN LAMMNLJ/1
